There is exactly one spider species that lives entirely underwater.
Argyroneta aquatica, the diving bell spider, spends its whole life submerged. It hunts underwater, mates underwater, raises its young underwater. Spiders are not built for this. Water is, by every biological measure, the wrong environment for a spider.
So it built a different atmosphere inside the wrong one.
It spins a silk dome anchored to underwater plants, then makes repeated trips to the surface to collect air bubbles on the hairs of its abdomen, carries them back down, and releases them inside the dome. Trip by trip, it fills the structure until it has a dry air pocket to live in. A spider-sized atmosphere, constructed from scratch, inside a world it was never designed for.
It doesn't wait to become a water creature. It doesn't leave. It just builds the conditions it needs inside the conditions it has.
Feeling like the environment doesn't quite fit isn't always a sign that something is wrong with you. Sometimes it means you're operating in the wrong medium and you know it. The question isn't how to fit better. It's what you're building inside the space you're in, and whether the structure you're making is yours.
