Hey there,
Travel wellness has become a little overcomplicated.
Somewhere between the hydration packets, the sleep gummies, and the emergency powder with an ingredient list you need a magnifying glass to read, it is easy to forget the basics.
Parasites have not forgotten the basics.
They do not need a dramatic entrance. Some travel through contaminated food or water. Some can enter through bare skin in soil or sand. Others arrive courtesy of a mosquito bite.
Your best defense is often much less glamorous than a cleanse.

Pack for the Parasites You Do Not Want to Meet
Start with repellent. In some parts of the world, mosquitoes can transmit parasites such as the organisms that cause malaria. An EPA-registered insect repellent, appropriate clothing, and clinician-recommended travel medications can all play a role depending on where you are going.
Then think about your feet. Barefoot walks are great until the ground comes with hidden guests. Certain hookworm larvae can enter through skin after contact with contaminated soil or sand, which makes shoes a surprisingly underrated wellness tool.
Your gut deserves a plan, too. Some parasites spread through contaminated food or water, so handwashing, safer drinking water, and a little common sense around food preparation matter more than they get credit for.
This is not about being afraid of travel.
It is about making yourself a less convenient host.

The Parasite-Proof-ish Packing List
Keep it simple:
EPA-registered insect repellent
Soap or hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
Comfortable shoes or sandals
A plan for safe drinking water
Any clinician-recommended travel medications
A small flashlight
The flashlight is for the hotel room check. Bed bugs are not parasites that live inside your body, but they are excellent hitchhikers and can travel home in luggage and clothing. Before unpacking, take a quick look at mattress seams, the headboard, and the luggage rack.
Two minutes is enough. No crime-scene energy required.
And if you are traveling internationally, talk with a clinician ahead of time. Depending on the destination, you may need specific vaccines or medications, including malaria prevention.
Your travel wellness kit does not need to be impressive.
It just needs to reduce the odds that your vacation ends with an organism treating you like an Airbnb.
